Who are we?
Carrodunum Dance Company
is a contemporary dance group that was founded at the end of 2021 in Krakow. It was created by young, professional dancers as a result of the will to work together creatively and to develop in the field of dance art. Our mission is to create interdisciplinary spectacles on the border of dance theater, performance and physical theater.
What does Carrodunum mean?
“Historical studies of the distant past have revealed that several centuries before the coming of Christ, the nations of the Windas, ancestors of the Slavs, inhabited the pre-Tatran lands. It was within this homeland of the Slavs that the city of Carrodunum rose, along a transport route used to bring amber to the Adriatic Sea. Most of the information available to us on the city of Carrodunum was documented by Claudius Ptolemy of Alexandria, a geographer of the second century. He wrote that the city was situated on the banks of the Vistula river, very close to the site of modern Krakow, spurring many scholars to believe that it was the birthplace of the city which is home to over 750,000 people today.”
